The input shaft fits in the splined elastomeric
coupling and goes through the flywheel into the crankshaft,the end of the shaft is fitted with a needle bearing, this keeps
things in perfect alignment.The input shaft is also fitted with angular ballbearing (thrust type) to keep the gear in it's
place inside the case.The CD video shows detailed information on how the whole unit is assembled. The elastomeric coupling
is a BMW part.
